Living in the heart of Queens, NY, I face the realities of our current pandemic every day. Working in the entertainment industry, I will be unemployed until the later part of the summer, perhaps longer, and I know that there are many others in a similar situation. Movies and TV provide an escape, but only if they don't constantly remind us of the limitations we face during this time. Thus, QuaranSTREAMS was born.
Content Requirements
Watching movies and tv should be a form of relaxation, but it's hard to do so when we are bombarded with images of acts that are no longer societal norms. Characters going to a bar or restaurant, for example, become reminders of the things we can no longer do.
In an effort to suggest content that allows the viewer a sense of escape or comfort, suggested media needs to meet at least one of three criteria:
Allow a sense of escape with a distant time setting either:
far in the past when humanity faced even greater global challenges
deep enough into future, long after solutions have been implemented
Provide a sense of perspective or solidarity by featuring characters in isolation who encounter extraordinary difficulties
Address current societal concerns, such as pandemics, supply shortages, or social distancing
